Chances are you might have heard this term being thrown about at one point or another: Dabbing. If you do a basic search online the entire process might even seem daunting but you don’t have to worry, we are here to simplify the process for you.
For the people who do not know what dabbing is, it is the flash vaporization of cannabis concentrates. The concentrate is kept on a hot surface and then inhaled. Concentrates are a lot more potent than the flower that is most prevalently consumed and so one needs to be very careful about the quantity consumed.
A cannabis flower usually tests anywhere between 15-25% THC whereas concentrates can go from 50%-80% depending on the type and quality of concentrate in question. If you are not a big fan of the euphoric effects of THC then you can even dab with CBD, which has been talked about a lot as well.
What makes dabbing as effective as it is touted is the fact that it is the most bioavailable option to consume cannabis. It might be effective but it for sure is not for everybody especially if you are just starting out with cannabis. Plus with a learning curve also come great effects. Also if you use a concentrate, you are exposed to a lot more cannabinoids and less resin so you are exposed to the best part of the herb. For medical purposes, it is important that you get a medical cannabis card.
Dabbing is a great method for consumption as we have established, but it does need quite an elaborate set up to work effectively. At least the traditional method does otherwise just like everything else in the cannabis world so is the dabbing methodology. The traditional setup requires you to get the following things;
This is a water pipe that looks like a bing except that it is small enough to hold a nail.
This is very similar to the bowl that you might see on a bong. The function is similar as well. You place the concentrate on this nail. There are multiple options you can choose from. The most common ones include quartz, ceramic, and titanium.
This is the tool that is used to apply the concentrate to the nail. This dabber can be made of glass, ceramic, or metal and be shaped in a multitude of different ways too. You have dabbers in the shape of a ballpoint, scoop, paddle, spoon, etc. The shape is dependent on the texture and consistency of the concentrate you are about to dab.
This is not an essential part of the set up buy it is a great way to regulate airflow. You can actually find a dabber/ carb cap if you don’t want too many moving parts to the device; the combination works well too.
Mini torches that are used by dessert makers are a perfect fit for dabbing but you need to stock up on propane as they run on that. Alternatively, you can even use an e-nail, which uses electricity to heat up the concentrate. These might be expensive but they do eliminate the need to use a flame.
The most important part. You cannot dab in the absence of concentrates. There are various forms you can pick from. The most common ones include shatter, rosin, wax, and BHO.
This mat helps to keep your dabbing surface clean and non-sticky.
To make sure that you consistently heat up the nail after every dab.
Once you set up the dab and place the concentrate on your dabber, you are ready to begin your dabbing journey. We do recommend you sit down when you are about to Dab as the process as the vapor might end up being a little too intense.
Take your torch and aim it at the nail directly. Most people let the nail turn red before moving but this too depends on the concentrate that you are using.
Once you feel that the nail is hot enough, you can turn off the torch. Now depending on the material of the nail you have to let it cool down. Quartz takes around 45 seconds to cool down and titanium about 10 seconds. You have to make sure the temperature is not too hot to dab effectively.
Place the concentrate with the dabber directly on the nail and begin inhaling very slowly. Rotate the dabber tip on the nail as that can help in negating any waste of oil ṭhat might take place.
Cover the dab with the carb cap and inhale. The cap will regulate the airflow and give you a better experience.
Slowly and steadily inhale and enjoy the guaranteed high.
When you dab for the first time, it can be quite daunting to measure a dab. The THC concentrations depend primarily on the type of extract it is. It is recommended that you begin small and then slowly increase the dosage of your product as time passes.
A standard first dosage is no bigger than a crumb. When you first look at it, it might not look like much but when you see through the THC terms, it’s a lot. If you have been using flowers for a long time, dabbing might get a little intense the first time. As time passes, however, your tolerance will increase and the effects will be a lot less prominent.
Ensure that you always start small when you take your first foray into the world of dabbing. Another aspect to remember is that not everybody showcases the same effects to THC. So, what is just a slight high for you has the capability of being a nightmare for another person. This is why it is important to pay attention to your tolerance. Start small and then work your way up.
Dabbing is a great way to experience cannabis in all its potent powers. But if you are planning to dab for any medicinal purpose the best course of action would be to get 420 evaluations done as that is the only way to get your hands on the required concentrates.
